The project proposes two autonomous clusters that bear no relation to the geometry of the streets.
Planning 2011-2012

A hospital district has grown up around the Balgrist University Hospital and Burghölzli Psychiatric University Hospital. The new Children’s Hospital will be the latest addition to the area. The project proposes two autonomous clusters that bear no relation to the geometry of the streets. The building that houses research, teaching and administration will be located at the northern end. The design is deliberately low-slung out of respect for the historically important Burghölzli Hospital, which stands to the west. The hospital building itself is located on the main site further south. Its spatial dimensions are defined by overlapping courtyard-based structures. From the outside, these take the form of projections and indentations that break up the façade and shape the outdoor areas.
