School Schlieren, Schlieren

Schlieren/ZH, 2012, new construction, competition, school and kindergarten with triple gym and swimming pool, 16'350 m2

The new school complex consists of two volumes: the L-shaped school building containing the kindergarten, primary and secondary school, with the sports building closing off the area towards the railway embankment. The integration of community hall into the sports building indicates the importance of this building beyond its everyday school use. The school building is located on Parkallee, the main inner transit route for the emerging district. The area is accessed from this point. The secondary school is housed in the four-storey structure along Badenerstrasse, with the kindergarten and primary school located in the two-storey section in the centre of the courtyard. Bordered by the adjacent apartment blocks, the school's park, all-weather yard and accessible roof sections function as a single interior space. This spatial context is supported by the permeability of the ground floor in conjunction with the park path and the accessible terraces connected to the surroundings by stairs - an architectural promenade.
