New building
Competition
Development of a campus made up of several departments and a public park landscape.
Planning 2018

Work is under way in western Bern to create a new university campus housing several departments. A compact building at the southern edge of the site brings the many different types of use together under one roof. A public park is being created to the north, and an oval pavilion will house the restaurant and adult education facilities. The main building resembles an intricately interwoven city district. The vertical and horizontal access points form a three-dimensional grid; extensions, light wells and large openings mark intersections and endpoints. Both buildings are designed as composite concrete and wood systems. Depending on the observer’s angle of vision, the vertical wooden slats make the façades appear predominantly open or closed.
