Conversion and renovation
As part of a comprehensive renovation, six new 2- and 4-room rental apartments are being created across four floors. A maisonette apartment spans the two mansard levels, offering access to a new rooftop terrace. The ground floor will continue to house the confectionery with its café facing the boulevard.
Planning 2016-2025 / Construction 2025-2027
The towering residential and commercial building from 1876 is part of the prominent row development on the lower Rennweg. Its history dates back to the 14th century, as evidenced by individual structural elements that still remain today. Since 1905, it has been owned by the Honold family, who established their traditional confectionery business there. Due to the operation of this business, the building underwent numerous modifications over the decades, resulting in significant changes. In the 1950s, the Neo-Renaissance façade was stripped down, losing many of its decorative details in the process.
In the meantime, the space requirements of the confectionery have decreased, partly due to the outsourcing of production. As part of a comprehensive renovation, six new rental apartments with 2 and 4 rooms are being created, spread across four floors. A maisonette apartment spans the two attic levels, with its residents having access to the new rooftop terrace. The ground floor will continue to house the confectionery and its café, which faces the boulevard.
Externally, the redesign incorporates selected elements from 1876. The two commercial floors, for example, feature a natural stone cladding and once again form a two-story base section. The wooden windows are framed by the historic sandstone surrounds and flanked by new wooden shutters. On the ground floor, the façade regains its original symmetry: just as it did 120 years ago, the central entrance now once again leads into the confectionery.
